Coming from an impoverished background, reading this means so much to me and I feel so blessed to read your work because for the first time, I feel so understood!

I've spent countless days was drowning in self-pity and hatred after continuously observing the lack of privilege I had in comparision to most of my friends who came from stable two-parent households with money, connections and a large house. They swoop in to help their children financially or to find them a decent job. From my mom's dingy car, I'd watch as they rode in their parents shiny Honda to ballet or soccer practice. Sometimes, I'd go over to my friends house just so I can eat their food because there was nothing left in the fridge.

Life is so cruel but those who recognise their privilege and take steps to alleviate the problems of others are true heroes, not those annoying 'influencers.' Just look at Ronan Farrow and what he was able to accomplish through the #MeToo movement. Despite coming from an elite family, he didn't exploit his connections and instead did truly amazing things.

Thanks for writing this article!

I dwell too much on my thoughts, and writing is therapeutic.
