EElizabeth Tudor’s birth was marred with tragedy. Her father, Henry VIII, defied the mighty Pope and their formidable Spanish allies by proclaiming himself Head of the Church of England in order to marry Anne Boleyn, hoping she would bear him a strong and healthy son.

Instead, Anne gave him a squalling red-haired daughter whose reign would be remembered as the golden age of English history. Furious with her mother's failure to provide him with an heir, Henry VIII viciously executed Anne Boleyn on trumped-up charges. Henceforth, Elizabeth’s life was thrown into disarray. Under her father's reign, she presented herself as docile and obedient, secreting her growing intelligence and fortitude.

Throughout her life, she was faced with a number of perilous tasks. She successfully survived Queen Mary’s reign, where she was falsely accused of conspiring against her sister to place herself on the throne and proved herself triumphant against the invincible Spanish Armada sent to overthrow her.
